Kannada directors should bear the brunt.

I hear a lot of talk nowadays regarding how badly our kannada film artistes perform or have been performing over the years. Well I am not exactly trying to defend any one of them here. On the contrary even I, who usually avoid being a critic, cannot help but feel the same sentiments. Believe me I have had chances to go to some handful number of plays and I can tell you that I have never returned disappointed. When these unnamed actors can throw splendid performances, then why not these so called film actors?

I feel here that the actors are not the only people responsible for making us leave even before interval starts, but equally or more responsible are the directors of the movie themselves. They should face the music for handling and managing our actors so badly. It is their mistake that they portray our actors in such an immature and unprofessional manner.

It is usually the actors who become targets of open public criticism and ridicule, but not the directors who deserve them more. I have always been a firm believer that the kannada actors have all the potential in them to shine with their talents, but their talents are not fully harnessed or utilized by our directors.

One of the important ability of the director, is to convey the picture of a character he has in his mind, to the actor who is portraying it. If the director is not capable enough to do this then no matter who the actor is, he will always end up being confused. The comfort level of the actor acting the character should be such that he begins to believe himself to be that character. The actor begins to walk, laugh, and eat like the character. It is the director’s job to get the actor to that level. Only then the audience can understand what the director is trying to convey for which he is using the actors as a mere medium to reach and catch their attention. Once the actor fully understands his expectations from his director then he will definitely fit into the role much more comfortably.

I believe the poor performances should be attributed to the inexistence of this essential bond between the director and actor. Without this the film becomes devoid of any kind of emotion or feelings which in turn will fail to strike a chord within us. The present band of directors should go back to their good old theatrical days and relearn the practices that gave them that name and fame that they enjoy today. And if they are not from a theatrical background then it is the perfect time to seek the help of one.

Also I have noticed that the directors make a mistake of giving too much importance to one character. Usually it is the one played by the male or female lead depending on who is more famous. One bad character portrayal no matter how petty is enough to spoil the entire movie. It is shocking that the directors even at this level commit such silly mistakes.

It is a disappointing thing that the same directors when they make a play or even a tele-serial are able to connect with the audience, but once they get into the big and real business they falter. Being a big Kannada Movie fan I am putting my heart on my sleeve and praying with all hope that at least the next generation of directors will be able to get the best out of Kannada actors and come with films that will make every Kannadiga feel proud of his origin.

My new Dell Studio 15 and already problems

I got a new Dell Studio 15 Laptop only last week. But all the excitement was short lived due to a hardware problem. My CD got struck in the CD Drive and no matter what I did, was not able to eject the CD. One drawback in the is the absence of a physical button by which I can force the CD to eject. I will have to eject the CD by pressing a button on the key board. The other option being right clicking on the drive in My Computer and choosing eject. Well both of them let me down. Even multiple restarts and shutdowns did not help me in getting the CD ejected.

I was left with no choice but to call the helpline. Fortunately their service was excellent. The very next day an engineer dropped by and he had to replace the entire drive. After discussing this issue I faced with my friends, they informed me the problem is present in all the laptops where the drive provided is of slot type with no hardware means to eject the CD. There are a lot of complaints in all the other laptops using a similar kind of CD Drive. So if you are going for a new laptop, do check the drive type.

Other than that the laptop is excellent for multimedia. Superb sound quality beating even the latest Inspiron series. So all the video and music freaks this is the laptop to go for.
Hope I wont have to bear anymore unpleasant surprises in enjoying my first laptop.

Wanna Drink? U over 25??

Just today morning (13th May 2010) was going through the newspaper when one article caught my attention. The article was regarding increasing the legal age for drinking liquor in Maharashtra from 21 to 25. I was becoming more and more shocked as I went on reading the article. There was no concrete reason mentioned as to why all of a sudden the government is deciding to increase the legal age. This age limit is highest in the world.

Though some one in the government mentions that there will be a drastic decrease in the number of accidents caused due to drunken driving, I do not buy that. This does not mean that people over 25 years are better drivers in that inebriated state. In a country where the age limit for voting is 18 and for a male to get married is 21, I do not understand why a person in 18 - 25 years age group should not be allowed to Drink.

Definitely Maharashtra government is not tackling the issue logically. The number of accidents wont come down by increasing the age limit for drinking. A better solution would have been decrease the time limit upto which alcohol can be served during nights (not a supporter of this though).

Hope the government will wake up and stop passing rules which does not make any sense. And if the rule still gets passed let us hope the other states wont blindly follow Maharashtra

Indian team selectors – Are they trying to experiment?

Well everyone must be surprised when they heard about the Indian team which will make it to Zimbabwe tri series (also for the more religious ones, the Indian A team for England tri series). This is probably happening the first time in Indian Cricket that almost all the senior players will be rested. We will not be seeing the likes of MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan and Gautam Gambhir. Well will this prove costly or not only time will tell.

Anyhow it is high time that the selectors show some mercy on some players. They have been playing continuous cricket now and it definitely seems to be a good decision by the BCCI to give some well deserved rest to some of the senior Indian players who we will need fully charged for the Asia Cup and the following non stop cricketing ties. Also some of players will need some isolation time to look back and see what went wrong in their dismal abysmal T20 performance.

It is so good to see that the BCCI has shown confidence in lot of youngsters. It will be a big break for lots of them in the team. Who knows when the next time these youngsters will get the chance? Definitely for most of them who will fail to perform this might as well be the last series they will be playing. They will be literally competing against each other to get noticed in the highest form of limited over cricket one can play for their country. Hope all this competition of ‘Survival of Fittest’ will be played in good spirit and Suresh Raina will be able to manage these guys so that all this competition will lead to getting India good results. No easy task this for Raina who has come under the scanner for poor captaincy in Dhoni’s absence in the recently completed IPL 3 edition.

Just imagine if this team kicks off then the selectors can follow a rotation policy where some of the seniors will be rested for every tournament. By this way we can be more prepared to select the best 16 for more important tournaments like World cup etc. With lots of cricket being played we cannot expect India to win all the tournaments with the same 16 member team. There must be a rotation system in place. With changing times India has to adapt itself, accept the fact that cricketers are in fact humans and not super humans to play through out the year non stop. This will also mean fewer injuries, a fitter team and stop the new trend of pre mature retiring.

This is not a new thing that the BCCI is trying to follow. Australians and England have tried this for getting their best 15 to play in the Ashes which they take it more seriously than World Cups.

Being a cricketer in a country like India can be a blessing or curse. We all know that one of the greatest fielders of our country and present fielding coach Robin Singh chose to play for India because of the stiff competition he faced in West Indies for a bowler slot. Why Robin, take the case of Dirk Nannes who went and played for Netherlands in the last world cup since he did not get a chance to play for Australia. All this tamasha because they were not getting a chance to play internationally in spite of consistent performances. Who knows deserving Indians may look to try their luck outside. With the way the cricket is being played now, the player’s origin hardly matters. The only solution for all this is for the selectors to follow a rotation policy so that every deserving cricketer will at least get one chance to prove himself.

Have the BCCI selector chosen the best second string team? Well there will be many answers from millions of cricket gurus in the country but here is mine, No. There have been some people who have been ignored. Like S Badrinath for example, I don’t know what that poor fellow has to do to prove his mettle. Also some might object this but I feel Rahul Dravid should have been given a chance (but not captaincy). He is a transformed player now, thanks to IPL. He would have proved a crucial guide to the team if God forbid the team configuration did not kick off. Not to mention the excellent record he has against the Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe.

Others who missed include Sreesanth (serves him right), Irfan Pathan (I don’t think we will miss him) and R P Singh (I feel he is unlucky). The selectors should have at least considered Murali Karthick for the T20 matches, who has proved time and time again that he is a serious customer. I can say he is the only T20 specialist bowler in the entire country.

Well for the ones who made it into the team it is the time to prove that the selectors were right in showing confidence in them. Also Lots of luck to Suresh Raina who has a big task ahead of him to manage and lead all the new comers. Also wishing Gary Kirsten who will have to work closely with Raina to get the combinations correct since most of them will not have played together in a single team.

All the Best India – Sabko Harake aa jao.

P.S. Best of luck to the India A team too travelling to England.
